Academic Seminar on “Building China's Independent Knowledge System of Humanistic Economics” Held in Suzhou

On May 15, an academic seminar titled “Thoroughly Implementing the Spirit of Xi Jinping’s Important Speech on the ‘May 17’ Anniversary and Striving to Build China's Independent Knowledge System of Humanistic Economics” was held at Renmin University of China (Suzhou Campus). The seminar was hosted by China’s Alliance for an Independent  Knowledge System of Humanistic Economics and organized by Renmin University of China (Suzhou Campus) and the Suzhou Research Center for Humanistic Economy.

Wang Xiaohu, Vice President of Renmin University of China, and Gu Wanyong, Chairman of Suzhou Federation of Social Sciences, attended and delivered speeches. Tang Jie, Executive Deputy Director of the Suzhou Campus Management Committee, presided over the event. Wang Xiaohu stated that building an independent knowledge system of humanistic economics is a glorious mission for social science researchers in the new era. Renmin University of China will leverage its disciplinary strengths, build the alliance platform, and advance theoretical interpretation and disciplinary development. Gu Wanyong pointed out that humanistic economics is a major original proposition put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping based on the models of Suzhou and Hangzhou. Suzhou will vigorously implement research initiatives and accelerate the building of a highland for research interpretation, talent aggregation, and transformation and application.

During the exchange and discussion session, experts and scholars from Renmin University of China, Shandong University, Jilin University, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Soochow University, and other alliance member institutions, as well as universities and research institutions in Suzhou, conducted discussions on topics including the academic connotations of humanistic economics, its relationship with a new model for human advancement, and new challenges and opportunities in the era of digital intelligence. The attending experts unanimously agreed that research on humanistic economics represents a vivid practice in building China's independent knowledge system and has achieved preliminary results. Moving forward, efforts should be made to uphold the correct political orientation, consolidate academic foundations, strengthen theoretical innovation, and gather alliance strengths to deepen research through systematic and scholarly interpretation, thereby contributing more to the construction of Chinese modernization.
