From September 20th to 21st, President Lin Shangli visited the Suzhou Campus to inspect the talent development work. He gave directives on the reform of talent cultivation at the International College, Sino-French Institute, Silk Road School, and School of Smart Governance, aiming to promote the comprehensive reform plan of the Suzhou Campus. On the afternoon of September 20th, a special meeting on talent cultivation at Suzhou Campus was held. President Lin attended and delivered a speech, with Vice President Zhi Xiaoqiang presiding over the meeting. Lin Shangli put forward three key requirements for talent development at the Suzhou Campus. First, adopt new ideas. Efforts should be made to align closely with national strategic needs and integrate with key national projects. Second, form a new framework. Deep collaboration should be pursued with various schools, institutions in the Yangtze River Delta, and other high-level universities across the country in critical areas such as curriculum development, training program design, and faculty allocation. Third, serve major national strategies. It is important to adhere to the combination of industry, academia, research, and application, building a talent cultivation model of “100 people as one team, project-based groups.” On the morning of September 21st, Lin Shangli met with the Consul General of the French Consulate General in Shanghai, Benoît Guidée, to discuss further collaboration on talent education and development between China and France.Lin also visited newly appointed teachers and representatives of visiting faculty at the Suzhou Campus, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with determination and contribute to the enhancement of talent cultivation quality. He emphasized the role of teachers in nurturing students to become pillars of national rejuvenation and pioneers of the country’s future. During his visit, Lin Shangli inspected the construction of the Suzhou Key Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Social Governance Technology and listened to a report on its progress. He also met with new graduate students from the School of Intelligent Governance, encouraging them to strive to become learners, researchers, innovators, and pioneers in the field of intelligent governance. Lin Shangli and his team made a special trip to Soochow University for a survey, where he had in-depth discussions with Soochow University President Ying Hanjie on topics such as local development, talent resource sharing, and the joint development of humanities disciplines. During the visit, Liu Xiaotao, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, met with Lin Shangli and his delegation. They discussed deepening cooperation between the university and the local government, particularly in promoting the integration of industry, academia, research, and application in the fields of artificial intelligence and intelligent governance.
On October 10th, Zheng Xinye, vice president of Renmin University of China and director of the Administrative Committee of the Suzhou Campus, went to the Suzhou Campus to investigate the progress of the comprehensive reform of the Campus and the recent talent team construction work, and made arrangements on the key work in the near future. Wang Xiaohu, Executive Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Suzhou Campus, and Tang Jie, Secretary of the Party Committee of Suzhou Campus, accompanied the investigation. Zheng Xinye had a discussion with the newly recruited teachers of the Suzhou Campus. On behalf of the school, he expressed welcome to the newly hired teachers and hoped that they could quickly adapt themselves and inherit and carry forward the glorious traditions of the school, and promote the spirit of educators in passing on the tradition of Revolution. Zheng Xinye gave a high evaluation on the talent team construction achievements of Suzhou Campus in recent years. He said that the Suzhou Campus should closely follow the latest discipline layout planning and college construction plan a team of teachers and industry mentors with a high starting point and high standards, solidly promote comprehensive reform, and continuously improve the quality of talent training and the ability to serve the national strategy of Suzhou Campus. Subsequently, Zheng Xinye inspected the construction of the Key Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Social Governance Technology in Suzhou. He hoped that the School of Smart Governance would strive to improve the students' practical ability and innovative awareness, actively promote academic exchange and technological transformation, especially pay attention to the value guidance of students, and regard the construction of a better society centered on the people as the landing point of wise governance, contributing to the development of society towards goodness, harmony and progress. During the visit to the School of Silk Road, Zheng Xinye said that he hoped the School could further broaden the vision, continuously deepen the sustainable development strategy, and strive to build a brand of "Study in China" and "Study in China" with far-reaching influence and demonstration effect, so as to contribute to the cultivation of more international talents. On September 26th to 27th, Vice President Wang Yi visited the Suzhou Campus to investigate the ideological and political work of Sino foreign cooperative education, and made arrangements for the comprehensive implementation of the Suzhou Campus reform and the creation of a new path for ideological and political work in Sino foreign cooperative education with the characteristics of RUC. Wang Yi stated that ideological and political education is a key course for implementing the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, and also an important channel for enhancing the leadership of ideological and political education. She expressed the following hopes to ideological and political education teachers: firstly, to firmly uphold their ideals and beliefs, comprehensively implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, and earnestly study the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the National Education Conference and the spirit of the National Education Conference. Secondly, we must deepen our cultivation and actively participate in the training of ideological and political education teachers, and continuously optimize the teaching effectiveness of ideological and political education. Thirdly,we must pursue excellence, strengthen the spiritual guidance of educators, actively participate in ideological and political work in Sino foreign cooperative education, and cultivate socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. She proposed that relevant departments in schools should also establish a sound guarantee system to provide comprehensive and practical support for ideological and political education teachers, and provide a broader stage for their growth and development. On September 27th, Wang Yi and her delegation held a discussion with relevant departments such as the Suzhou Education Bureau on the joint organization of a demonstration exhibition course on "Implementing the Spirit of the National Education Conference and Promoting the Integration of Ideological and Political Education in Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Schools" by Renmin University of China and Suzhou City.
On October 10th, Suzhou Campus held a meeting to discuss preparations for the upcoming undergraduate education evaluation. Zheng Xinye, Vice President of Renmin University of China and Director of the Suzhou Campus Management Committee, attended the meeting and outlined the work plan. Wang Xiaohu, Executive Deputy Director of the Suzhou Campus Management Committee and Dean of the Sino-French Institute, Tang Jie, Party Secretary, along with other members of the Campus leadership team and the evaluation task force participated in the meeting. On September 21st, the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year of International College, Sino-French Institute, Silk Road School and School of Smart Governance was held on Suzhou Campus of RUC. Lin Shangli, President of RUC, Zhi Xiaoqiang, Standing Committee of the Party Committee of RUC and Vice President of RUC, Joan VALADOU, Consul General of the Consulate General of France in Shanghai, and Ni Qian, Member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), attended the ceremony. Lin Shangli presented the emblem to the representatives of new students and made a speech. The Tenth Policy Forum in Asia was held at Suzhou Campus, with the theme: challenges and governance in the digital age. Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council, Zheng Xinye, Vice President, as well as Satoshi Nakano, President and Dun Yamada, Vice President of Ichibashi University, attended the forum. Scholars from the two universities gave keynote speeches from different perspectives on opportunities and challenges brought by digital transformation, conducting discussions on new trends of scientific research and technological innovation in the digital age, changes in folk beliefs, local intangible cultural heritage customs related to water, international governance of e-commerce, the American Industrial Chain Alliance, characteristics of artificial intelligence and trust between human and machine.
